The Caribbean Community (CARICOM)’s 43rd Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government will be held in Suriname from July 3 to 5, 2022. High on the agenda is the implementation of the bloc’s Single Market and Economy, food security and governance.
In a pre-summit interview, CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr Carla Barnett, said the President of Guyana, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, is to present a report following the CARICOM Agri Investment Forum and Expo. President Ali holds responsibility for agriculture in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet.
The wide range of issues of importance to the Community that the Heads of Government will discuss include governance and the way decisions are taken and implemented in the Community.
Dr Barnett said, “We’re expecting that it will be a very fruitful meeting and we’re working towards that.”
The Meeting opens at 6 pm on Sunday at the Assuria Event Centre in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Remarks will be presented by CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr Carla Barnett; Outgoing Chairman of CARICOM, Prime Minister John Briceno of Belize; the incoming Chairman of CARICOM, President Chandrikapersad Santokhi of Suriname; the newly elected Prime Ministers of The Bahamas, Saint Lucia, and Grenada. The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres is also expected to deliver remarks.
