Senior Minister with responsibility for Finance Dr. Ashni Singh today tabled in the National Assembly a request for supplementary provision totalling $44,794,011,175.
For the agriculture sector, government hopes to secure $18.9B in additional funds. Of that sum, $2B is projected to be used to support operational expenses at the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo).
This news agency understands that government will also seek $1.4B for the provision of additional resources to the sugar industry.
Additionally, $1.2B is being asked to support the work of the National Irrigation and Drainage Authority (NDIA), along with $44.1M to lend support to the Guyana Livestock Development Authority, and $218M for the Mahaica Mahaicony-Abary Agricultural Development Authority.
Government will also seek $177M to support its Black Belly Sheep project of which Barbados is a partner.
Also, a request for $300M was made for the promotion of agricultural development initiatives, including support to fisherfolk.
Other sums are being requested for old age pension, security, legal fees, fuel lubricants for the interior region, education programmes and Amerindian development.
