Under the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development from 2020 to 2022, $685M was approved for the Sustainable Livelihood and Entrepreneurial Development (SLED) Project. But since 2020, this Ministry under the leadership of Nigel Dharamlall has failed to provide this nation with the total number of job opportunities and employment created, the total number of training programs, enhanced skills and competency and the social and cultural cohesion programs that were birthed.
This is according to Opposition Member of Parliament (MP) and Shadow Minister, Ganesh Mahipaul.
“I am guided that all the monies from this allotment were distributed to friends and family members of the PPP without any accountability or transparent process,” the MP said in a recent statement.
He also accused a high-ranking Ministry official of giving out taxpayers’ money to friends and family members of the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C.
“I, therefore, take this opportunity to call on the Auditor General of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana to conduct a forensic audit on the SLED program allotment and to provide a report on that expenditure soonest to the people of Guyana.
It seems as though public thievery is a norm under the PPP/C but as the saying goes, he who sits quietly and allows the wrong to happen is equally culpable of doing the wrong also,” the politician said.
