Around 16:40hrs yesterday, two Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) men visited the Grove Police Station and reported that they were robbed by six men on bicycles, armed with knives at Friendship, EBD.
According to one of the men, a 35-year-old mason, he was robbed of $125,000 cash (Guyana currency), property of his employer. He also reported that he lost one red Samsung A3 cellphone, valued at $45,000.
The other “victim”, a 25-year-old labourer, reported he was robbed of his cellphone valued at $32,000, a wallet valued at $5000, his national identification card, and other documents.
Both men were interviewed by ranks of the Grove Police station and the Criminal Investigation Department during which it was suspected that their report was false in nature.
As a result, a search was carried out on their respective haversacks where the aforementioned items they claimed they were robbed of were found therein.
They were both told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested, and placed into custody.
