Police in Regional Division Two are investigating a report of a fatal incident which occurred yesterday at about 19:00hrs on the Charity Extension Scheme Access Road on the Essequibo Coast.
The incident involved a Raptor motorcycle driven at the time by 17-year-old Adon Da Silva of Lot 621 Charity Extension Scheme Essequibo Coast and pedestrian Manniram Sooklall, a 35-year-old labourer of Lot 403 Charity Extension Scheme, Essequibo Coast.
Enquiries disclosed that the motorcyclist was proceeding east along the access road at a fast rate when he ‘ran over something’ and stopped to see what it was. The teen motorcyclist said he saw a male lying on the northern side of the road with what appeared to be blood about his body. He said that he panicked and drove away.
The pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious state and conveyed to the Charity Public Hospital in a Police Force motor pickup.
Da Silva was pronounced dead at about 20:45hrs.
The body is presently lying in the Charity Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The teen motorcyclist was arrested last night and remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
The motorcycle was lodged and is to be examined by a Licensing and Certifying Officer.
Further investigations are ongoing.
