A cutlass-wielding man is now being sought by the police after he threatened to kill a woman who was at the time taking her child to school. The incident occurred at the Bohemia Primary School in Berbice. The incident has reportedly left staff and students traumatized.
A source close to the investigation said statements have already been taken from the woman whom he threatened to kill. While reluctant to say whether there was any relation between the two people, the source said that the two are known to each other.
The source further noted that police officers in the district have begun a manhunt for the assailant who from all indications might have been under the influence of alcohol when the incident occured. Visits to his last place of abode and those of his relatives have all proven futile in the search thus far.
The Guyana Standard understands that the man, sometime around 8:00 hrs Monday morning, appeared at the school with a cutlass demanding to see the woman whom he reportedly waited for some distance from the school.
An eyewitness told the police that the man wielded his cutlass at one of the school’s staff members who prevented him from entering the compound. That staff then ran for cover after the cutlass-weidling man threatened to kill him.
The eyewitness further recounted to the police that after his demands were not met, he proceeded to an electric motorcycle belonging to the intended victim. A video recording shows the man mercilessly chopping the electric bicycle while hurling threatening remarks.
Investigations are still ongoing.
