Relatives of 75-year-old Angelica Gamell who was killed by her granddaughter last Sunday say the two shared a very loving relationship prior the horrific incident that took place.
Her 22-year-old granddaughter, Stephanie Gamell, who committed the act, has been admitted to the psych ward following an evaluation that revealed she suffered from postpartum depression.
However Angelica’s sister, Simone Gamell explained that her sister held Stephanie in high regard and would often invite her to spend time with her at her Charity home.
The woman noted that the two were very close and would often communicate when she was away teaching in the Pomeroon district. She recounted that the now-dead woman played an important role in Stephanie’s life.
“The two of them never had a confrontation. The granny always spoke nicely about her… mom would always call and tell me that Stephanie visited and she missed Stephanie. She used to talk about Stephanie’s cooking and how close they were. I am still trying to figure out what happened.” Simone said.
The woman explained that while the family is still trying to come to grips with the loss of Angelica, there is still some amount of concern for Stephanie’s well-being and mental health.
“I am sorry for my niece because when my niece come back, if she’s in a right state of mind, I think it’s going to be worse than it was before because to know that the granny that sent her to nursery school way up to secondary school, died by her hands is going to take a toll on her,” Simone said.
The family said that while the 22-year-old remains under evaluation, they plan to support her if there is a need to face criminal proceedings for her actions. She noted that the family will continue to mourn the loss of Angelica, while praying for the mental recovery of their niece.
