Forty-four-year-old Jason Kellman will spend Christmas and New Year’s in prison as he was remanded for the alleged murder of his reputed wife.
Kellman was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate Court to answer to the murder charge.
It is alleged that on December 2, 2022, at his Hillfoot Soesdyke/Linden Highway home, he murdered his reputed wife Umadai Lall. According to police reports, Kellman had returned home from work and met Lall in an intoxicated state and an argument ensued between the two. She was reportedly consuming alcohol in the presence of their son which angered the man.
Detectives said the suspect left the living room and resorted to the bedroom where the woman followed him and began abusing him for speaking to her about her drinking.
In retaliation, the man told investigators that he became annoyed and dealt her several blows to her head and face after which he went to bed.
He noted that on Friday, he found Lall motionless in their room and immediately rushed her to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead on arrival. The woman bore marks of violence on her face, hands, chest, and other parts of her body.
The court case will be heard again on January 12, 2023.
