The man accused of killing his aunt after being given an eviction notice has been remanded to prison. Fifty-year-old Keith Walton was arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
It is alleged that on December 2, 2022, at Princes Street, Georgetown, he murdered his aunt, 76-year-old Audrey Statia Elizabeth Harris. Walton was deemed mentally ill but after an evaluation, he was considered fit to stand trial in the preliminary inquiry.
He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge. The Chief Magistrate denied his bail application and remanded him to prison until January 17, 2023.
Neighbours had told detectives that they heard the shattering of glass and screams coming from the house. The police were called in after the woman was unresponsive to the calls from neighbours.
Her body, according to detectives, bore several marks of violence. A bloody hammer was also found in proximity to where her body was discovered. This is the third woman to be murdered in a week.
