Video surveillance from the night Regent Street vendor Mark Singh was murdered is currently being reviewed by ranks attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Ranks are looking to identify the suspect in Singh’s murder.

A source close to the investigation told the Guyana Standard that footage from a total of seven cameras in the area is being reviewed. The source said that the cameras provided full details on what occurred the night Singh was murdered.

The source could not confirm the identity of the suspect. The source said that the suspect however escaped in a white motor car just after committing the act. The number plate and other details have already been collected.

Singh was fingered in a highly publicized gold heist earlier this year. He was jointly charged with 44-year-old Bisram Paul. It is alleged that between December 2021 and January 2022, in the company of others, Singh stole 1000 ounces of raw gold, worth $400 million, from a businesswoman of Mahaica, East Coast Demerara. Singh was out on bail.

Singh was on Wednesday evening murdered by an unknown assailant while he was plying his trade on Regent Street.

Guyana Standard understands that around 8:00 hrs on Wednesday night, Singh was in the company of some family members when he was pounced upon.

The man reportedly slit Singh’s throat, before stabbing him several times about the body. Eyewitnesses on the scene recounted that Singh fell to the ground and began bleeding out. Singh’s body was left in a pool of blood until investigators and Emergency Medical Technicians arrived on the scene.
