A sixty-seven-year-old homeowner was rendered speechless after watching his Vreed-en-Hoop home being destroyed by an early morning fire today.
The Guyana Fire Service said the origin of the inferno is so far unknown. Guyana Standard understands that while the home was owned by Harry Deonarine, there was another man who lived at the residence.
It was further noted that the tenant left for work around 7:00 am this morning. The fire reportedly occurred just about two hours later, posing a threat to other nearby buildings which prompted the presence of the fire service.
Deonarine was speechless at the scene as he watched his home being razed. Neighbours however recalled that smoke was seen billowing from the room around 8:45 am.
“I started to shout to the other neighbours that the house was on fire and we immediately called the fire service because I didn’t want it to spread and catch my house,” the neighbour said.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
