People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Executive Member, Faaiz Mursaline has not only rescinded his resignation from the opposition party but has also made a decision to resume duties as Treasurer.
In an official letter to the party’s Central Executive Committee yesterday, Mursaline outlined that he is in full support of the PNCR and its vision for a better Guyana.
“It is my view that on reflection and (following) an understanding of the reasons for those who encouraged me to resign as Treasurer of our party, I wish to withdraw my resignation as Treasurer of our party,” Mursaline said.
During an interview with Guyana Standard, Mursaline confirmed that he met with Opposition Leader, Aubrey Norton and members of the Central Committee to discuss his decision as well as statements made in the press about racial hostility in the party. He declined, however, to say if he was satisfied with the party’s approach to dealing with his claims of racial hostility. He said, “I am not at liberty to say but it will be dealt with internally.”
Mursaline’s resignation comes just a day after the Florida chapter of the PNCR had tabled a no-confidence motion against Norton. Mursaline’s recent claims and resignation were cited as being among key reasons for the genesis of the motion.
When asked by this publication whether his decision might have had anything to do with the no-confidence motion by those in the Diaspora, Mursaline said, “It had nothing to do with it. In fact, the no-confidence motion has not been recognized by the North American Chapter. From all indications, it seems that the members of the chapter from one state, out of several, made this decision without consulting with the North American Chapter.”
Mursaline nonetheless noted that his decision to leave was premature, adding that while members of political parties may have their differences internally, those issues can be addressed in-house.
“Everybody has issues and problems in any political party but the grievances must be settled internally. Honestly, I do not think it’s time for me to leave as yet but sometimes you have to put aside differences and put the needs of the party first,” Mursaline said.
Last year, Mursaline tendered his resignation from the party citing a plethora of issues, including facing racial hostility from Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton. Norton during a press conference last week denied the allegations and told the press that the PNCR has mechanisms in place to deal with matters of racism.
