Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand along with several officials watched the Christ Church Secondary School ravaged by what appeared to be an uncontrollable blaze this evening.
There is no indication as to what caused the blaze, a second time around, but the extent of the damage has so far been exponential. Manickchand, who appeared to be tearful, explained that within the span of 12 months, a total of three schools have been destroyed by fire.
Among the school’s destroyed was the St. George’s High School. Manickchand said that while the destruction can cost millions in losses, the time to rebuild is even greater. “It is sad to witness this. It is not easy to rebuild a school and the reality is that more than 500 students and staff are now displaced and we have to get the ball rolling,” Manickchand said.
She continued,”To lose a school like this, with all its amenities, it is a sad day. This is an A-list school which means students who missed Queen’s College and Bishops attend here. This is not to say that any other school is not worthy but this is to say that these are children with incredible potential that are being displaced now.”
Chief Education Officer, Saddam Hussein said relocation for the resumption of classes will begin next week Monday.
