The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is moving to hire some 14,500 temporary workers to assist with the hosting of the constitutionally-due Local Government Election (LGE) this year.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira made the disclosure on Monday when the House commenced the consideration of the 2023 budget estimates.
The hiring has increased the budgetary allocation to $5B this year.
“Last year’s $4B was returned because there was no Local Government Elections. So it is expected that the $5 Billion this time will be able to cover the elections,” Teixeira told the House.
