The Guyana Government will resume the hosting of the country’s flagship trade exhibition event, GuyExpo, this year, says Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond. The minister announced the expo’s return in the House on Tuesday when the Committee of Supply met to consider the 2023 budget estimates.
The sum of $14.5M was approved to execute critical works at the expo’s venue, the Exhibition Centre at Sophia, Greater Georgetown. She explained that the sum will cater for works on the Secretariat’s roof, main stage area and kitchen.
GuyExpo was first held in 1995, and during the years leading up to 2016, the event transformed into Guyana’s biggest exposition with over 460 businesses, both local and international, participating annually. Those businesses were given the opportunity to present their goods and services.
The event was previously slated to return in 2022, but never materialised.
