The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) said that two recent fires that destroyed a West Bank Demerara (WBD) home and a playschool in West Coast Berbice (WCB) were maliciously set by persons.
The service said that at about 03:35hrs on Tuesday, it was alerted to a fire at Market Street, Wales, WBD. Water tender #111 and crew from the La Grange Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the location.
The structure involved was a one-flat wooden building owned by 56-year-old Denise Adonis, which she occupied along with 58-year-old Christie Sidney Phoenix. The fire, which was the result of a malicious setting by unknown persons, destroyed the house, leaving the two occupants homeless.
