Police ranks in Regional Division 7 are investigating an attempt to commit murder on Ryan Williams, a 22-year-old miner of Byderabo Village, Essequibo River, by three suspects, ages 17, 20 and 25.
The incident occurred at about 16:00 hrs yesterday (Thursday) at Byderabo Road, Bartica.
According to Annalisa Pereira, the reputed wife of the victim, Williams and two of the suspects, who are brothers (the 20-year-old and 25-year-old), are neighbours and friends. On the mentioned date and time, the victim, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, had an argument with the 20-year-old suspect’s 17-year-old girlfriend, which subsequently subsided.
The matter escalated again when the other brother returned home and learnt about the earlier argument. The two brothers and the 17-year-old female then went to the victim’s house and confronted him, during which they allegedly dealt him several lashes about his body and head with a piece of wood, causing injuries.
Annalisa Pereira then took her husband to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he sought medical attention but lost consciousness. He was admitted but had to be air-dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
A report was made, and the 20-year-old and 17-year-old suspects were arrested. They are presently in custody. Efforts are underway to arrest the 25-year-old suspect.
Investigations are in progress.
