The Indian government has granted scholarships to three Guyanese nationals. The awardees were chosen by the High Commission of India in Georgetown. The lucky recipients are Delon Turpin, a State Auditor; Captain Wyette Nestor of the Guyana Defence Force; and Elon Sooknanan, the Head of Public Infrastructure Transportation Tourism at Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Turpin will study Auditing in IT Environment at the International Center for Information Systems & Audit in Uttar Pradesh, India for a period of one month under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme. Meanwhile, Captain Nestor will be studying the Officers Transport and Management Course at the Army Service Corps and College in Bengaluru, India for approximately two months, and Sooknanan will be studying Environmental Management at the Environment Protection Training and Research Institute in Hyderabad for three weeks.
Before embarking on their respective programmes the scholarship recipients had the opportunity to meet and interact with H.E. High Commissioner, Dr KJ Srinivasa, who emphasized the importance of sharing India’s own development experiences with fellow developing countries. The aim is to strengthen the bond between India and Guyana through partnerships and cooperation for mutual benefit.
The High Commission of India in Georgetown recently released an updated list of the ITEC and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) courses that are being offered by the Indian government in a variety of fields including military, technical, medical, entrepreneurship, and cultural studies. Eligibility criteria and additional details can be found on their official website or Facebook page.
