After several changes to her plea, the former media representative who recently admitted to drug trafficking allegations has finally been sentenced by the courts. Twenty-six-year-old Zanneel Williams, who made her appearance at the Diamond Magistrates Court was today sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $14.4 million.
Last year, Williams was arraigned before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond/Grove Magistrates’ Court and opted to plead guilty to the offence of drug trafficking. She then changed her plea to not guilty. Then last month, she returned, and change her plea to guilty.
Also last year, Former CANU officer Anil Sookhoo, and Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) officer Shameka Caesar were all charged in connection with the drug bust.
Williams’ trial was scheduled to commence last month but a confession before the court had changed the trajectory of the case. A probation report was also prepared at the sentencing.
Last April, Williams was caught at the airport with 7.9 Kilos of cocaine. The narcotics was found concealed in the walls of one of her carry-on bags.
Williams was a passenger on a Jetblue flight which was destined for the United States. In addition, CANU found an additional 1.6 Kilos of cocaine strapped to her body.
