A taxi driver who struck down and killed a police corporal on Republic Day has been granted bail to the tune of $1.2M. He was arraigned today at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
The accused, Troy Henry, was charged in relation to the death of Police Corporal, Alden Reynolds. Henry was slapped with two traffic offenses; one for driving under the influence and the second for driving in a reckless manner which resulted in Reynolds’ death. Bail was granted in the sum of $1M for the first charge while $200,000 was applied for the second.
According to police, Sergeant Javon Thomas was also injured following the accident. He remains in a stable condition in the hospital.
Police in a statement said that Reynolds and Thomas were walking when a speeding car, out of nowhere, collided with a parked vehicle. After colliding with the car, Henry then reportedly struck the two men.
The officers were part of a domino team and were heading to a competition in the district.
