Businessman Devanand Singh was found guilty of inflicting serious bodily harm on his daughter and will know his fate behind bars come March 23, 2023. Singh’s daughter went viral on social media last year after a video was posted showing her pleading for help and also accusing cops of not taking her complaint seriously.

Singh’s daughter went viral, after she revealed that she had suffered at the hands of her father. She told social media that for years, Singh had been brutalizing her. On that occasion, the young woman claimed that it was her, and step mother, including her siblings who also was subject to abuse.
She lamented during the live broadcast that officers were aware of the threats against her, including an assault which happened days before and Singh threatening to kill her. That however resulted in an investigation from the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) of the Guyana Police Force.
Police Headquarters later confirmed that the OPR was investigating the alleged unprofessional handling of the matter by the ranks. That investigation is still ongoing according to a source.
“The OPR has launched an investigation with a view to determining whether all the SOPs were followed by the investigating ranks from the Kitty Police Station,” police stated back in 2022. When questioned, the victim told detectives that after the assault, she was held captive in her father’s house for 48 hours.
