A 27 year-old policeman is now in hospital fighting for his life after he was shot by a close family member during a fight that broke out Sunday night in Linden, Region 10.
According to reports from the district, the Tactical Service Rank is currently unresponsive after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.
Guyana Standard understands through a usually reliable source that the rank, Jermaine Semple, was off duty and was at the Crown and Anchor Bar in Amelia’s Ward along with several other family members.
The source said Semple’s brother and his cousin, Fawaaz McRae, got into a heated argument.
The source told this news entity that based on eyewitnesses’ account of what transpired, Semple, in an intoxicated state, whipped out his firearm and threatened to use it. Shortly after, two gunshots were heard as people started running from the bar.
Semple was found unconscious seconds later and bleeding profusely from the head. He was taken to a hospital in the district where he remains unresponsive.
The source said that Semple was shot twice; once to the head and to the chest. McRae was arrested by detectives and remains in custody pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Shalimar Ali-Hack for charges. Police recovered two rounds at the scene of the crime.
