A 27-year-old businessman was today remanded to prison for allegedly attempting to murder his cousin due to a misunderstanding over the weekend. Fawaaz McRae of Central Amelia’s Ward Linden was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
McRae was arraigned before Magistrate, Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court. It is alleged that last Sunday, at Hometown, West Coast Berbice, he attempted to murder Police Sergeant Jermain Semple of Hopetown, West Coast Berbice (WCB). Without providing plausible reasons for bail, McRae was remanded to prison.
Semple is a policeman attached to the Tactical Services Unit. Reports are that the officer, his brother and McRae were all imbibing in Hometown when a fight broke out between the brother and McRae. After seeing the altercation, eyewitnesses said Semple intervened to make peace, but not before a fight then ensued between him and his cousin.
A press release from the police later outlined that McRae took out his licensed handgun, a .32 pistol and at about 21:30hrs, discharged two rounds in the victim’s direction, hitting him once in the head and also in his chest.
McRae remains at Linden Hospital Complex in a critical state.
