A fatal accident occurred earlier today on the Friendship Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD), resulting in the death of a 42-year-old motorcyclist, Daniel Marshall of Albouystown, Georgetown.
According to reports, the accident took place at approximately 6:50am and involved a motor lorry, bearing registration number GTT 345, driven by Dale Sylvester Wright, a 40-year-old resident of Tuschen, and Marshall’s motorcycle, registered as CK 8679.
Investigations revealed that Marshall was traveling at high speed along the western side of the Friendship Public Road, heading north when he attempted to overtake a silver-grey car (make and number unknown). In the process, he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with the right-side rear of the southbound lorry.
As a result of the impact, Marshall fell from his motorcycle and sustained injuries to his head and body. He was found unconscious on the roadside by the police and several passersby, who immediately called an ambulance to the scene. The emergency medical team pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Marshall’s body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. The lorry driver, Wright, is currently in custody, assisting with the ongoing police investigation.
The tragic accident has once again highlighted the importance of road safety and the need for caution while driving. The authorities also sought to urge all road users to exercise care and follow traffic rules and regulations to prevent further loss of life.
