An intelligence-led police operation was conducted earlier today to apprehend several male suspects who were at a house in Wisroc, Linden. The men are suspected of committing a string of armed robberies in the mining town.
The Guyana Police Force said that during the operation, the men opened fire on the police ranks, who returned fire and in the process, wounded two suspects, both of whom were rushed to the hospital.
One of the suspects who was shot has succumbed, while the other is receiving medical attention. The suspect who succumbed was identified as Randy Ronald Jerome, a 33-year-old resident of One Mile Wismar, Linden.
Ronaldo Chapman, called ‘Paki’, a 23-year-old of 73 Half Mile Wismar, Linden, who was wanted for robbery under arms and rape, is receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
A search is currently in progress, and so far, two firearms with ammunition and a quantity of cannabis were found by police at the scene.
