A 27-year-old man confessed this morning to detectives that he dumped his grandmother’s body in an alleyway at Russell Street after “accidentally” killing her. In recounting the horrific tale, the man told detectives that he and Patricia Bovell, 89, often had arguments on a number of issues.

He further confessed that in the wee hours of Sunday when Bovell was reportedly killed, he was awakened by a sound coming from the top flat of the house. He said that his grandmother shouted, “murder, murder” and he immediately investigated.

He then explained that upon inspection, there was no one in the house. The grandson said that he later found his grandmother sitting naked on the floor and when he was about to leave the building, his “foot accidentally” struck her in her head which rendered her unconscious.

In her apparent, unconscious state, the grandson said that he became scared, and he wrapped Bovell in a sheet. The man said he dumped her body in a clump of bushes opposite to where they resided. She was later found by relatives and neighbours who noticed she was missing.

Meanwhile, relatives of Bovell told detectives that the elderly woman had accused her unemployed grandson of stealing from her. Relatives also told detectives that the pensioner had complained of being abused by her grandson. She even had plans of evicting him.

Yesterday, police arrested the grandson who subsequently cracked under pressure and confessed.
