The 27-year-old businessman who was recently slapped with an attempted murder charge following his cousin’s death, was made to face the courts again. This time, he was dealt a flush murder charge.
Fawazz McRae was today charged with the murder of 32-year-old Police Sergeant, Jermaine Semple. Previous reports note that Semple was trying to resolve a fight between McRae and his brother.
McRae appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Wanda Fortune, where the murder charge was read to him. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge. Bail was also refused.He was remanded to prison until April 14, 2023.
Semple was attached to the Tactical Services Unit. Reports are that the officer, along with McRae and his brother, were all imbibing Linden when a fight broke out between the brother and McRae.
After seeing the altercation, eyewitnesses said Semple intervened to make peace, but not before a fight then ensued between him and his cousin.
A press release from the police later outlined that McRae took out his licensed handgun, a .32 pistol and at about 21:30 hrs, discharged two rounds in the victim’s direction, hitting him once in the head and also in his chest. The officer later succumbed to his injuries at the Linden Hospital.
