A Berbice woman is now fighting for her life after her partner unleashed a brutal chopping. His alleged motive for the inhumane act was learning that she was making preparations to leave Guyana on a vacation. Injured is 34 year-old Sandy Persaud of Number 57 Village Corentyne, Berbice.
A usually reliable source from the district said that sometime last evening, the woman and her partner who is a barber in the district, got into a heated argument which led the man to arm himself with a cutlass.
The source said that according to neighbours, the man, who is on the run from police, was continuously enquiring from Persaud about whether it was true that she was leaving the country. The source said that after Persaud told him about the move, he began mercilessly chopping the woman about her body.
After chopping the mother of three, the assailant reportedly left the house and escaped before the woman was discovered in a pool of blood. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
