A fatal incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 20:50 hrs on the Shiwan Access Road in the South Pakaraima District. Dead is a 57-year-old farmer, Mikey Francisco, from Karasabai Village, who was operating a Brazilian registered motorcycle, NAR 8584, when the accident occurred.
Reports indicate that Francisco was returning home from his farm on the motorcycle, which did not have a headlamp. As he approached the Shiwan Bridge, he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the rail of the bridge. This caused him and the motorcycle to fall off the bridge and into the creek on some rocks, with the motorcycle landing on top of Francisco and pinning him down.
On Monday at approximately 13:45hrs, relatives went in search of Francisco and found him in the creek in an unconscious state, with the motorcycle on both of his legs. He was taken to the Karasabai District Hospital, where a medical practitioner examined him and referred him to the Lethem Regional Hospital.
Unfortunately, Francisco was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. His body has been placed in the hospital’s mortuary and is awaiting a post-mortem examination, as police continue their investigations.
