Former APNU+AFC Councillor, Trichria Richards who recently transitioned to the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) to support its bid in the upcoming Local Government Elections (LGE), said more persons will leave the Aubrey Norton-led Opposition. She said more crossovers can be expected especially for the General and Regional Elections in 2025.
Speaking to her reasons for parting ways with the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R), Richards told reporters at the National Communications Network (NCN) on Tuesday that she simply lost confidence in Norton’s leadership.
“I have lost confidence in the PNC party as a whole. I decided to make this move because of what I saw over the last three years. I saw a message of One Guyana; an inclusion of all races in the country and development for my constituents,” she said.
The budding politician was keen to note that Norton’s leadership is one that brings into question his intention for the development of Guyana. On this premise, Richards said in the coming years, primarily before the next General and Regionals Elections, there are going to be more members of the opposition who will crossover to the PPP.
[When asked about the comments made by Norton during an exclusive interview with Guyana Standard recently about the PNCR knowing about her intentions to join the party about a year ago,](https://www.guyanastandard.com/2023/04/17/richards-was-under-the-radar-of-the-opposition-before-crossover-to-ppp-c-aubrey-norton/ “”) Richards said, “It’s a bit disheartening. To see the kind of comments made not only about me but about other Afro-Guyanese who chose to support the PPP. I believe that everyone has a right to choose which party they want to support.”
She maintained, “This is my choice and I am firm in what I believe in.”
