The family of a Bath Settlement, WCD man have now been left with more questions than answers after he was found murdered in the wee hours of Friday morning, reportedly murdered by another patient of the National Psychiatric Hospital.
The family of 32-year-old Dinesh Persaud of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice was thrown into a state of mourning after they received a call that Persaud was beaten to death by a patient of the hospital. Persaud was admitted to the hospital on Monday after he had undergone a psychiatric evaluation.
His father, Devendra Persaud, told reporters in Berbice that on Tuesday, he visited his son at the psychiatric institution on Tuesday. He noted that by Wednesday, relatives were informed that he would be transferred to New Amsterdam for additional psychological attention.
According to the police, about 5:55 am today, a nurse on duty at the facility was alerted by a patient that a man was lying motionless with blood protruding from his mouth and nostrils. That man was later confirmed to be Persaud. He was later pronounced dead on arrival. Persaud, based on his autopsy report, died as a result of shock with cerebral hemorrhage due to a fracture to the skull.
