The ex-partner of 36-year-old Telisha Domandeo, who was wanted as a person of interest in her murder, was found dead over the weekend. Relatives confirmed that 50-year-old Sunil Durga was found in a canal days after a wanted bulletin was issued for his arrest.
Durga’s brother, Chowdharilall Rameshand, explained that on Sunday morning, relatives were informed that the body of Durga was floating face down near the Brotherson pump station in the Canje river. Detectives on the scene found no marks of violence and while they await an autopsy, it seems Durga might have committed suicide.
After learning of the discovery, Rameshand said that his relatives traveled to the location and positively identified the body. The brother noted that he was unaware of the issues between his brother and his former lover.
“I can’t say whether he did murder her because the two of them left years ago. When I saw the news that he was wanted we tried calling him but we didn’t get any answer. This is tragic because now their child lost both their parents,” the brother said.
A source close to the investigation told Guyana Standard last week that the couple shared a turbulent relationship before it ended. The source said Durga reportedly disappeared after the woman went missing.
The now dead mother was found at the break of dawn last week at Creek Dam Betsy Ground Village, East Canje Berbice by a shepherd’s son. After the discovery was made, police were called in and the woman was identified by a relative.
Domadeo was reported missing last year after she left her Crabwood Creek, Corentyne home and sought safety at her mother’s residence at Blairmont, Berbice. She was reportedly abducted from her mother’s home and subsequently found dead. Police say the body was wrapped in a blanket.
