A 33-year-old ice cream vendor was shot and robbed while selling at ‘D’ Field Sophia (Red Road) last Sunday. The crime was committed by two men on a motorcycle, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
According to police reports, the victim, who was driving a red Ice Cream truck in the company of his boss, stopped to sell ice cream to a customer when they were confronted by the perpetrators on an XR motorcycle. The driver was robbed of $10,000 in cash and a Samsung Galaxy cell phone valued at $25,000.
The men were then ordered out of the truck and told to lie on the road. As the victim complied, the armed perpetrator fired a shot, hitting him in the left upper thigh. The perpetrators then fled the scene on their motorcycle, firing another shot in the air as they made their escape.
The victim was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and his condition is stable. Police found a 9mm spent shell at the scene and questioned several persons, but no useful information was received.
