The Ministry of Education has announced several measures to support pupils sitting the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) on May 3 and 4, 2023. These measures aim to assist students in overcoming challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a social media announcement, the Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, revealed that NGSA pupils will now have more time to complete their exams. Additionally, the examination papers will be translated for Spanish-speaking learners for the first time.
The number of examination centres has also been increased to 517. This will allow pupils to complete their examinations closer to home, eliminating the need for them to travel long distances.
Minister Manickchand highlighted the Ministry’s investments in support of learners to prepare them for the upcoming examinations. These include distributing textbooks to all primary school pupils, broadcasting curriculum-centered programmes on the Guyana Learning Channel and YouTube platforms, developing the Quiz Me platform, and making NGSA past papers available on the Ministry’s website.
Minister Manickchand expressed confidence in the pupils’ abilities to excel in this year’s examinations and wished them good luck. The results of the 2023 NGSA sitting are expected to be announced by July 11, 2023.
