The Ministry of Public Works has announced the appointment of seven members to its Technical Standards Review Committee. The committee will work directly with the Government Electrical Inspectorate (GEI) and serve as a consultative and advisory body to the Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill.
The ministry also noted that two additional appointments to the committee will be made at a later date.
The newly appointed committee will provide guidance on technical matters related to the formulation and implementation of the national energy policy. Additionally, they will inspect and test supplier work, investigate incidents, and address any other technical matter concerning the supply of electricity.
The committee will also be responsible for resolving disputes between the GEI and any person and will be instrumental in advising the Minister on any variation to the National Electrical Safety Codes (NESC) or the National Electrical Code (NEC) that may be necessary or advisable in the Guyana context.
Minister Edghill expressed his confidence in the newly appointed committee during a charge to the members earlier today. He noted that their work is of critical importance in the context of the ongoing build-out of Guyana.
The seven newly appointed members of the committee are Navin Deonarayan, Kevon Grimmond, Dr. Anna Perreira, John Cush, Kevin Vickerie, Davindra Ramnarine, and Sheldon Sauns. Dr. Perreira will serve as the Chairperson of the committee, while Mr. Grimmond will serve as Vice-Chairperson.
The Technical Standards Review Committee is expected to make significant contributions to the country’s electrical infrastructure, ensuring that standards and practices are of the highest caliber.
