The Good Hope Secondary School is in its final stages of construction, and once completed, it will offer pupils a much-improved educational setting.
Priya Manickchand, the Minister of Education, revealed this exciting news during the launch of the Literacy and Robotics Programme at the Enterprise Primary School, where more than 80 pupils from the Good Hope Secondary are housed.
She stated that the completion of the new educational facility would enable the students to access a more sophisticated learning environment.
Manickchand further informed the parents gathered at the event that the primary top would soon be closed, and all children enrolled there would move on to individual high schools. This was made possible by the upcoming completion of the Good Hope Secondary School. The minister explained that the school’s construction had started several years ago, but the previous administration could not finish it.
In 2018, B.K. International was awarded the original contract to construct the Good Hope Secondary School for over US$4 million. However, despite receiving four extensions (on March 10, 2020, May 18, 2020, June 15, 2020, and August 17, 2020), the firm failed to complete the project, and their contract was terminated on May 25, 2021.
The education ministry signed a new contract in 2022 with DEEN + Partners worth over US$2.6 million, using an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction/Turnkey agreement. Minister Manickchand expressed her disappointment at the previous contractor’s inability to finish the school, emphasizing that it had denied deserving students access to a secondary school education.
Once completed, the Good Hope Secondary School will be able to accommodate 479 students, allowing the ministry to close the primary tops at Paradise, Enterprise, and Enmore Primary Schools. This move will also help to alleviate overcrowding at the Cummings Lodge, Bladen Hall, Golden Grove, and Plaisance Secondary Schools. (Modified from the Department of Public Information)
