Tragedy struck at Alpha Hotel at Lot 2 Public Road Ogle, East Coast Demerara today, as a woman was found dead in her hotel room. Police identified the victim as Kim Halley, a 46-year-old woman from Lamaha Park, Georgetown. According to reports, Halley was stabbed 13 times in what police are calling a brutal murder.
The victim’s husband, a 50-year-old businessman from Mahaicony, has been arrested and is currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation. The scene of the crime was located in Room 235 on the bottom flat of the western side of the hotel. The body was found lying on a bed, partially clothed and facing upwards.
Upon examination of the body, investigators discovered 13 stab wounds, with the most severe wound measuring 10 inches in width and 5 inches in depth on her neck. The bedsheet was soaked in blood, and a knife handle without a blade was found next to the body on the bed. The blade was subsequently found in the deceased woman’s hair, covered in blood.
According to police sources, Halley and her husband were married, but she had moved out of his residence about two months ago due to his alleged abusive behavior towards her. They checked into Alpha Hotel today around 1:45 pm and occupied Room 235. Staff at the hotel heard screams coming from the room around 2:30 pm, and the suspect was seen leaving the hotel shortly after. The hotel staff discovered Halley’s body after finding the door to the room slightly open.
Police were notified, and emergency medical technicians (EMT) were summoned, but Halley was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination (PME).
The suspect was subsequently arrested at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters around 4:30 pm, and the investigation is ongoing.
