The body discovered under the Takutu River Bridge, which connects Guyana and Brazil, has been identified as that of 17-year-old Geraldson Joseph, from North Rupununi.

Loriana Joseph, a 24-year-old domestic worker of Lethem, Central Rupununi, identified the body as that of her brother.

Loriana said that while her brother is from the Rupununi, he lived somewhere in BonFim, Brazil, before his death. Loriana told the Police she last saw her brother ‘alive and well’ during last month’s Rodeo activity.

The details surrounding the circumstances leading to Geraldson’s death and the motive behind the crime remain unclear at this time. However, the police in Regional Division #9 are actively conducting their investigation into the suspected murder.

The body was discovered in a seated position, leaning against the concrete wall of the bridge. Geraldson Joseph was dressed in a black long-sleeve shirt and black underwear, with his hands and feet tightly bound with a multi-coloured rope. Additionally, a cloth, believed to be the victim’s pants, was used to tie his neck. Visible signs of violence, including marks on the right knee and neck, were observed on the deceased.

Upon the discovery, the body was transported to the Lethem Regional Hospital, where Dr. Bahadur pronounced Geraldson Joseph dead.
