Guyana Defense Force (GDF) Lieutenant, Rondel Anthony Douglas, a 33-year-old officer who was attached to the Coast Guard and resided in Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, was gunned down during a suspected robbery at around 22:30 hrs on Wednesday at Cul-de-Sac Street, North Ruimveldt.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim, who held a valid firearm license, occasionally worked as a part-time taxi driver for Alladin Taxi Service located in La Grange, West Bank Demerara. The owner of the taxi service informed the police that an identifiable male approached the base and hired Lieutenant Douglas for transportation.

Eyewitnesses in the area reported that at the specified time, a loud explosion, believed to be a gunshot, caught their attention. One resident, who was at home, observed a white Toyota Feilder wagon, bearing registration number PZZ 703, hastily leaving the scene. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Douglas was found lying helplessly on the ground, surrounded by a pool of blood. He had sustained visible wounds to his chest and head.

Law enforcement authorities have obtained CCTV footage and are actively searching for the suspects involved in the incident, as well as the motorcar in question. The investigation remains ongoing.

Douglas is remembered by his close friends as a jovial, kind and compassionate individual. He was also a respected member of the duelling monsters’ fraternity (YuGiOh) and has main-evented multiple tournaments nationwide.
