Thirty-seven-year-old Oscar Sanchez, a Venezuelan national who resided at Lot 37 Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was early this morning stabbed to death, by a man who attempted to rob his wife.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that the murder occurred around 04:30 hours in the vicinity of Blast Beer Garden, located at Grove, East Bank Demerara.
It was reported that Sanchez’s reputed wife, Avie Mario Leane Tores, is an employee of the beer garden. Tores told investigators that after she had finished working around 00:30 hours, she and her husband began consuming alcohol in front of her workplace (Blast Beer Garden). According to the woman, they were with some other friends, standing on the pavement in front of the bar.
The Police reported that around 04:00hrs, the suspect, a Venezuelan national (whose photo is attached) known to both Sanchez and Tores, came up to Tores and attempted to steal her purse that she had in her left hand.
This caused her husband to intervene. During an argument between the suspect and Sanchez, the suspect who was armed with a knife, dealt Sanchez several stabs about his body.
Sanchez fell to the ground, where he remained motionless as the suspect escaped, on foot, in a southern direction on the Grove Public Road.
The crime scene was photographed and processed by investigators who observed the following injuries on the body of the deceased: the back of the left side shoulder, centre of the back, left back elbow, left shoulder front, middle of the throat, left side lower rib, and right thumb.
It was stated that several persons were contacted and interviewed, and statements were obtained. CCTV cameras from the beer garden was also obtained and will be reviewed by investigators.
Notably, the Police revealed that while they do not have a name or address for the suspect, they were able to obtain a photograph.
