Ramchan Persaud, a 29-year-old fisherman of Charity Squatting Area, Essequibo Coast, was charged with the offence of break-and-enter-and-larceny committed on Samantha Layne, a 33-year-old housewife of Charity Squatting Area.
The incident occurred on June 7, 2023, at Charity Squatting Area. The charge was laid under Section 229 (a) of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01.
On July 24, 2023, the case was heard at the Charity, Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Esther Sam, and the defendant appeared virtually from prison.
Magistrate Sam found Persaud guilty of the charge, and he was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment.
