A 72-year-old man was yesterday found with an illegal firearm during a police operation at Suddie, Essequibo Coast.
Police in Regional Division No.Two, proceeded to Onderneeming/Sand Pit, where they contacted George Aubrey Archer from Suddie Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
The ranks requested to conduct a search on Archer and found in the waist of his pants, one .32 Taurus Pistol containing one magazine and 17 .32 live rounds.
Archer was questioned whether he was the holder of a firearm licence, to which he replied “no”.
Archer was told of the offence committed and cautioned, to which he replied: “Officer, the gun is me own and me gat it to protect me self.”
The pensioner was arrested and escorted to the Suddie Police Station along with the firearm and ammunition. Archer is in police custody assisting with the ongoing investigation.
