A 48-year-old former police constable was charged on Wednesday last with felony with intent to defraud a woman, Kuntie Kumarie, over $2 million back in 2021. Singh was granted bail in the sum of $150,000 by city Magistrate Rondell Weever. He was also required to lodge his passport and report to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) every two weeks pending the trial.
The magistrate granted bail despite the objection of the prosecutor, who noted that Singh is no stranger to alleged fraudulent practices. According to reports, Singh, between March 1 and July 26, 2021, conspired with another individual to defraud Kumarie of the sum of $2,815,000. He allegedly told the woman that he is employed by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) and promised to help her acquire a plot of land. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 15, 2023.
Singh, back in 2017, was slapped with two fraud charges while he was still attached to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU). He pleaded not guilty to the first charge which alleged that on January 26, 2017, at Penny Lane, South Ruimveldt Garden, Georgetown with intent to defraud, he pretended he would pay $6,000 per day to hire a motor car PPP 9900 for 40 days, from Troy Jacobs, knowing same to be false.
He further denied that between February 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016, at Eccles New Scheme, East Bank Demerara, having received $400,000 on the account of Latchman Mohabir from Rajindra Harrychan, he fraudulently converted the said money to his own use and benefit.
Attorney, Patrice Henry, requested that Singh be placed on self-bail since he reimbursed both complainants.
