The championship which represents a collaborative effort between the Chess Confederation for America (CCA) and the Puerto Rico Chess Federation (FAPR), is set scheduled to commence from October 24 to November 1, 2023, in the picturesque city of Carolina, Puerto Rico.
In an ode to female brilliance and mastery in chess, the tournament, hosted at the Verdanza Hotel in the charming tourist area of Isla Verde, promises a fierce competition that gathers a mesmerizing array of elite female chess enthusiasts from across the Americas and the Caribbean. Sasha Shariff, the youthful vigor in Guyana’s chess landscape, graces the championship with a heartening history of accomplishments, including the prestigious Conditional Women’s title.
Shariff is scheduled to partake in a captivating 9-round Swiss system, with matches commencing at 11 am and 5 pm daily. Riding on a wave of past glories such as clinching the Women’s Championship title in 2020 and securing second place in consecutive championships in 2022 and 2023, Shariff eagerly steps into the shoes of the reigning Women’s National Champion, Jessica Callender.
