In a bid to advocate for allyship with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community, Guyana Together has launched its second campaign video. This video which debuted on November 1, puts a spotlight on the significance of supporting LGBTQ+ individuals.
The heart of this campaign lies in the friendship between model and social media influencer Kristal Inshan and Avinash Narine, known as Nash, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Burning Desire Designs. Their story exemplifies the power of being an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.
This compelling video, broadcast on both local television stations and various social media platforms, captures Kristal Inshan’s unwavering support for Nash and showcases a network of friends and allies who stand united in their belief that all gay and transgender individuals deserve respect and acceptance in Guyana.
This initiative builds upon the success of the first campaign video, which premiered in September and featured Krystal Trim, a young lesbian, and her ally, Eusebia Liverpool, who has been a nurturing presence in Trim’s life since her teenage years.
The first video’s success was remarkable, garnering over a million views on Facebook alone and resonating with a diverse audience. One Facebook user summed up the sentiment: “Positive approach. Well done. Every young person deserves a place in this life.” The campaign extends its reach across multiple social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, in addition to maintaining a dedicated website with further information.
Guyana Together is a grassroots campaign with a primary mission to foster acceptance among the Guyanese community, reduce the stigma and prejudice faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, and ignite a nationwide conversation.
This campaign amplifies the stories of LGBTQ+ individuals who have found support and acceptance from various facets of their lives, emphasizing that it’s time for unity and change. Ultimately, Guyana Together aims to raise awareness about the pressing need to repeal the discriminatory law that criminalizes consensual intimacy between men in Guyana.
