During the 134th Annual Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner held last evening, Kester Hutson, President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), boasted of its almost 900 membership. This makes it the largest chamber in terms of members within the region.

“This year, we would have, we would have realized quite an uptick in membership of almost 900 members, which makes us the largest Chamber of Commerce in the region,” remarked Hutson.

Hutson also deemed 2023 a remarkably dynamic and engaging year for the organization. Beyond the pursuit of mere numerical growth, he underscored the Chamber’s dedication to cultivating a diverse membership.

He said GCCI is actively and strategically engaged in fostering global business collaborations, hosting numerous trade missions that connected with entities from diverse regions, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Simultaneously, the Chamber reciprocated these initiatives by embarking on visits to various countries, with a distinctive emphasis on promoting the development of small to medium-sized enterprises.

In a profound reflection on Guyana’s abundant resources, Hutson stated, “We are all bearing witness to a historic moment, an opportunity to lift our nation and raise it to become a shining example for prosperous and responsible growth. To realize the potential of our future we must ensure that our nation is not left behind in the presence of growth.”

As the horizon extends to 2024, President Hutson outlined the Chamber’s forthcoming initiatives, with a particular focus on enhancing mentorship programmes and the establishment of a dedicated business incubator.

He stressed that these endeavors underline GCCI’s commitment to not only fostering growth but also ensuring responsible and sustainable development for Guyana and the wider region.
