Go NDE Inc, the sister company of Trinidad’s Non Destructive Testers limited, in partnership with SICIM Guyana, has finalized a contract for Non Destructive Radiographic Examinations for the imminent Gas-to-Energy Project (GTE Project). In light of this, the partnership is seeking the approval of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for importing, storing, transporting, and utilizing Gamma Ray equipment (Iridium 192 / IR 192), all dedicated to the project.
The mission of the gas-to-energy project is to help provide Guyana with cleaner, more reliable, and lower cost energy by 2025. Utilising gas from Guyana’s own Liza field resource from the Unity and Destiny FPSOs, gas will be brought to shore via a pipeline to an integrated gas processing facility and power plant in Wales Estate, Region Three.
In September, the Italy-based oil and gas services company, SICIM, was awarded a pivotal role in Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy Project, valued at an impressive US$55 million. This endeavor marked SICIM’s debut in Guyana but also promised to redefine the nation’s energy landscape.
The Vreed-En-Hoop Shore Base on West Bank Demerara will house the Iridium 192 in a lockable, steel, lead-lined storage box within a 20ft Container. Security measures, including perimeter fencing and signage, will be in place to control access and ensure the safety of the restricted area .
Located away from major roadway and without immediate neighbors, the storage site will be monitored by 24-hour security to prevent unauthorized access. Transportation of the Iridium 192 to project areas will be facilitated in a secure storage box on a pick-up vehicle, with the isotopes returning to the shore base after daily use.
Highlighting environmental responsibility, GO NDE INC. said it prioritizes preventative maintenance programs and conducts tests to ensure equipment integrity. Adhering to regulations, depleted isotopes are scheduled to be returned to the manufacturer for disposal in approved sealed containers.
