TGS, a prominent company in marine surveys, recently announced the completion of a significant project in Guyana. On December 1, 2023, the company completed the final stage of three marine surveys which were conducted using Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) technology, for ExxonMobil Guyana.
The company stated that it had collected data from an area of 2,400 square kilometers in just 410 days, finishing 20 days earlier than planned. This accomplishment is not only a record for the longest deepwater node survey ever done but also highlights the effectiveness of TGS’ advanced ZXPLR node technology used in the surveys.
Throughout the project, TGS received 12 “Catch of the Week” awards from ExxonMobil Wells. This program recognizes significant achievements in health, safety, and environmental protection in ExxonMobil Wells’ global operations. Additionally, TGS played a crucial role in environmental conservation by removing 1.2 metric tons of marine debris, including discarded fishing gear and plastics, thereby cleaning up the marine environment in Guyana.
Carel Hooijkaas, Executive Vice President of Acquisition at TGS, expressed pride in the company’s history of pioneering achievements. He emphasized that this project was another milestone, being the longest deepwater node survey ever carried out for ExxonMobil Guyana.
The official added, “We did this safely and efficiently in one of the most congested fields in the world. We worked in true collaboration to deliver an OBN dataset which will deliver value to ExxonMobil for years to come.”
