An editorial staff member of the Guyana Chronicle has been sent on administrative leave following sexual assault allegations.

In response to recent reports of sexual assault within its ranks, the Guyana Chronicle also know as the Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL) addressed the issue via a statement where it expressed profound concern. The alleged incidents, said to have occurred on December 22, 2023, and December 27, 2023, were brought to the company’s attention on Friday, December 29, 2023, following the filing of a police report.

Chronicle responded swiftly, stating that it initiated an internal inquiry and cooperated fully with the Guyana Police Force’s investigation. The male employee involved was promptly sent on administrative leave pending the outcome of the police inquiry, which subsequently led to his arrest.

Chronicle said it placed the highest priority on the safety and well-being of its staff and remains dedicated to cultivating a workplace culture that prioritizes respect, equality, and safety.

As the internal and police investigations unfold, Chronicle reiterated its commitment to full cooperation with the authorities.
