Police are investigating the murder of Tommy Roberts, a 35-year-old farmer of Wanakai Village, North West District, Region One. The incident occurred about 19:10 hrs on January 1, 2024 in Wanakai Village.
Enquiries revealed that about 19:00 hrs on Monday, the victim and the suspect were imbibing when a heated argument ensued between them. Consequently, the victim was in the process of walking away when the suspect armed himself with a cutlass and dealt him several chops about his body.
The victim attempted to run but collapsed a short distance away. The matter was reported to the police and ranks from Mabaruma Police Station immediately responded. They coordinated with members of the Wanakai Community Policing Group (CPG) and after a relentless search, managed to apprehend the suspect, who had fled the scene and was hiding in some thick vegetation within the village.
The body of the victim was escorted to the Mabaruma District Hospital where it was seen by a doctor and pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect was escorted to the Mabaruma Police Station where he was placed into custody pending further investigations.
